IFTA rates

IFTA tax rates 3Q2026 by state.

The per-gallon rates for July to September 2026, diesel and gasoline, in US dollars. These are the rates for the return due Monday 2 November 2026.

Copied from the official IFTA tax rate matrix (3Q2026). Diesel means the matrix's "Special Diesel" column. Kentucky and Virginia add a surcharge on top of the rate, paid on gallons burned in the state, not on gallons bought. A few states carry footnotes on the matrix for local rules; the matrix is the final word.

"See matrix" means the gasoline cell is blank or footnoted on the official matrix for that state; check it there. Oregon's IFTA diesel rate is $0.000 because Oregon collects a separate weight-mile tax instead.

Canadian provinces (US dollars per gallon)

The matrix converts Canadian rates to US dollars per gallon for the quarter; file in the currency and units your base jurisdiction asks for.

How the rate is used

For each state: taxable miles divided by your fleet miles per gallon gives the gallons you burned there. Burned gallons minus gallons bought there (with receipts) gives net taxable gallons. Multiply by that state's rate. A negative number is a credit: you paid more tax at the pump than you owed. Add the surcharge states separately, on burned gallons.
